I am so excited to share this recipe with y’all today! You see, my sweet mother-in-law made the best tasting baklava it was her signature dessert, a labor of love. If you are not familiar with baklava, It’s this delicious multi-layered dessert made primarily from phyllo dough, nuts, homemade sweet syrup, butter and a few other key ingredients. This dessert has a nice balance of sweet, nutty and flaky goodness. While I absolutely love moms baklava it’s a bit labor-intensive and so I typically save her recipe for special occasions.
Today I want to show you how to make the alternative, a dessert similar in taste to baklava but made in a fraction of the time it would take to make your traditional baklava. This my friends is the solution, the short cut to baklava in a snap. In the following recipe I add mini chocolate chips which are not considered in your traditional baklava, but they give these tarts additional tasty flavor.
First you’ll want to check the freezer section (pie and ice cream section) at your local grocery store. They sell these cute little tart shells, locate them and hoard them, they are pretty popular during the holiday season. The possibilities are unlimited with these tarts. We should try a roundup of recipes someday using these tarts as our foundation.
